Doula work is my passion. I truly enjoy passing this
knowledge onto others. I have worked as a birth doula for
eleven years and been to approximately 120 births. I
became an ICEA approved childbirth educator and have
taught childbirth classes for the last ten years. I also work
as a post-partum doula and teach infant massage to new
parents.
Before becoming a doula I worked at a variety of jobs that I
enjoyed but I was never passionate about. In my late
forties my boss asked me if I wanted to attend the home
birth of her second child. Of course I said, "Yes."
She called when she was in labor and I went to her house.
When I arrived the baby had already been born but she
was not breathing. The midwife had not arrived, they had
called 911 but the EMT had not arrived either. I begun
giving the newborn CPR and she started to breath again.
Two weeks later someone told me about becoming a
doula. Within three months I had begun doula training
classes. I was 48 and I had finally found my calling.
